Similar to a residential home, the sky is truly the limit when it comes to a barn. In today’s day and age, there are so many ways to take a barn to the next level. That is true whether it is a new barn or simply a renovation. Custom horse stalls, glass-filled barn doors, rubber pavers, bronze hardware, and everything in-between. That being said, we understand that each barn varies in size, budget, and scale.

In this article, we’d like to share a 3 ways to bring cost-efficiency for your project – without sacrificing quality or looks.
Consideration #1: Fully Welded Horse Stalls vs. Kit Horse Stalls
We’ve all seen a beautiful 20-stall horse barn on Pinterest that is drool-worthy. It has stunning Sliding Horse Stalls that we think would be just perfect for our own barn. During our design process, we like to provide our clients with the option between our Fully Welded Horse Stall Systems and our Kit Horse Stalls.

The main difference between a “fully welded” horse stall and “kit” horse stall is the amount of materials used. Our Fully Welded Stalls will include a stall front panel that is fabricated and ready to install upon delivery. It requires no additional assembly. Our clients can simply stand the panel upright and fix to the supporting wood posts.
In contrast, a Kit Horse Stall Front includes just the Stall Door, Grillwork, Track System, and our Pin Latch. The sliding stall door, latch, and track system are all the same as they would be in the Fully Welded route. However, a kit will include u-channel and grillwork to frame out the stall and the door – in contrast to the fully welded’s panelized system.
Once can visualize the difference between the two systems above. An equestrian can choose our kit stall front and achieve a beautiful end result. This decision also can save about 35% in costs compared to a fully welded stall system.
Consideration #2: Kit Partitions
In each barn project, we always emphasize sunlight, ventilation, and safety in our product design. One of the best ways to accomplish those 3 elements are through the design in horse stall partitions. Similar to the first consideration, our partitions come in both a fully welded partition and kit partition. In this article, we’d like to further explore a kit partition idea.
There are numerous occasions when we will work with a client who wants a certain look and feel in their barn. They have a certain design in mind for their horse stall fronts, barn end doors, Dutch doors, and flooring. It is their dream barn and they simply do not want to compromise on design on those components. However, there is still a certain budget that needs to be met for the project. In these cases, the stall partition is often a place where a client can achieve some cost-efficiency.
The above are two examples of Full Wood Partition Kits. The left photo includes a wood post that divides the partition in half. Each side then features our 8′ u-channel hardware that frames the stall partition – allowing for lumber to easily slide in. The right photo shows another partition, but without a wood post in the middle. This partition uses (2) pieces of 8′ u-channel to frame out the Southern Yellow Pine Lumber. The client then uses our 8′ Wall Stiffener to provide rigidity and strength to partition’s center point.
This option makes for a beautiful stall partition that is equally durable and strong. Our last tip is a practical decision you can make at a later date. Over time, as your budget allows, you can remove the top 3-4 lumber boards and add grillwork. This partition grillwork addition will allow you upfront cost efficiency while eventually promoting more airflow in your barn.
